Instructions on how to install the mod are included in each zip file.

Ideally I would have updated all the OOBs so that the new graphics work for every scenario, but with 90 in all, it would have meant delaying the mod much longer. Fortunately, players can easily update their favourite scenarios that have not already been done by using the OOB editor.

IronX Eastern Front mod for HPS Squad Battles Red Victory 1.0

This mod provides gamers with an alternative to the stock images and sound effects that come with the game. In addition, it includes updated OOBs that take
advantage of the new graphics. None of the other files in the game have been changed.

Included in this main zip file are three sets of (zipped) files:

RV-Summer.zip – the summer-themed graphics files.
RV-Winter.zip – the winter-themed graphics files.
EasternFront-Sounds.zip – the new sound effects.

INSTALLATION

** Set Up **

1. You will need to make two copies of Red Victory (RV); one for the summer graphics and one for the winter graphics. The easiest way to do this is to Copy and
Paste the entire RV directory. Rename one

Red Victory – Summer

and the other

Red Victory – Winter

Make sure you have the spaces before and after the dash.

2. Delete all the scenario files (*.scn) from each copy of the game. If this is not done, then winter scenarios will also be available in the summer version of
the game and vice versa and will look odd. I have sorted out the scenarios and included them in the summer and winter zip files. Those marked with an underscore (_) before the scenario name have not yet had their OOB updated.

3. At this stage you may want to make two shortcuts for the two copies of the game; one for Winter and one for Summer (eg RV Winter and RV Summer).

** Install the Modded Files **

Graphics

3. From the root directory (eg C:\) unzip the RV-Summer.zip file to the Summer copy of the game and the RV-Winter.zip file to the Winter copy of the game. Make sure you have Overwrite Existing Files and Use Folder Names options checked.

Sounds

4. The EasternFront-Sounds.zip contains all the new sound effects and two additional zip files containing German and Russian rally cries. The following process will need to be repeated for both the Summer and Winter versions of the mod. Ensure Overwrite Existing Files option is checked.

4.1 Go to the Media directory of the mod (eg HPS Simulations/Red Victory – Summer/Media). Unzip all the files there.

4.2 Open the German Rally zip file and extract the files to each of the German subdirectories (ie, German, German-AB, German-SS).

4.3 Open the Russian Rally zip file and extract the files to each of the Russian subdirectories (ie, Russian, Russian-Guards).

4.4 Repeat the above process for the Winter version of the mod.

That’s it. Enjoy the mod!

For Advance of the Reich (AOTR) owners

Although not tested, some of the files in this mod should work with AOTR. These include

- All map graphics
- All infantry graphics
- All of the sound effects
- NOT the vehicle graphics
- NOT the gun graphics
- NOT the heavy weapon graphics
- NOT the scenario or OOB files

To use, unzip the files into temporary directories and then copy only the map, infantry and sound files across to AOTR. As with Red Victory, you could make two
copies for Summer and Winter.

You will need to udpate the OOB files using the OOB Editor so that the correct infantry graphic matches up.

I had started to mod AOTR but then moved on to Red Victory. I may well finish this mod off as it uses many of the same graphics as RV.

And on the defensive in “The Chapel on the Corner”.

The graphics for both winter and summer scenarios include:

- All new terrain tiles
- All new unit graphics
- All new vehicle graphics
- Many new heavy weapon and gun graphics
- New map symbols and explosion effects
- Updated UI graphics

The sound effects include:

- All new small arms sounds
- All new heavy weapons sounds
- All new artillery sounds
- All new German and Russian rally cries

No other files for the game have been altered.

In order for the new graphics to work properly, each scenario’s Order of Battle (OOB) file needs to be updated. Below are the scenarios, listed by summer and winter, with updated OOBs marked in bold that will ship with the mod. This list will be updated as I convert additional OOBs. Gamers wishing to play the other scenarios with new graphics will need to udpate the OOB using the OOB Editor.

The scenario concluded with a major loss for me (Germans). Apparently attacking a heavily defended position using vulnerable gliders against superior numbers is not a recipe for success. Who would have guessed?
